D.I.A.A.R.L. 03:23
Swagger out Under lightning Leaning back Watch the forks streak the clouds It’s a key You don’t know yet But it feels good In your hands In your hands Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love In the dark You can see In the deep You are floating Can you taste it? You’re alive in a way you can’t describe Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of radical love Oooo your dreaming is an act of Radical Love

Them Unsaids 03:56
Got Me Round the waist Keep holding If you can’t be there what do you do? Copper inside say what have you done But if you can’t be held then where do you hum? Happy girl sideways look at the sun I await What I’d always wanted Can I speak desire? Could I deserve a piece of the cake? All of these shapes inside of me at stake How did I get so far out of line with what is all mine? What you got there behind your eyes Your tongue Your unsaids will not protect you But if you call me by your name I’ll be undone If we’re here to sweat then where is the drum And if you’re high where we were you won? And if you’re high where we were you won? Can I speak what I’ve always wanted? Can I speak desire? Could I deserve a piece of the cake? All of these shapes inside of me at stake How did I get so far out of line with what is all mine? How did I get so far out of line with what is all mine? If you don’t take some what do you do? Got me at the high jump, back in a twist Tell me all the words you are yet to possess? You can ride here in your lungs Tell me where I go, here in my gut I’ve got an H-E-double L for what I give up Every time I shrink wrap a piece of me up (Even if a high word) Got (Even if a high word) Me (Even if a high word) Round (Even if a high word) The waist (Even if a high word) Keep (Even if a high word) Holding (Even if a high word) Two step to the centre Copper inside is much quieter now Ready to be held, palms like stars, raised high Look me in the eyes and turn up the light How did I get so far out of line with what is all mine? How did I get so far out of line with what is all mine? Tell me all the words you are yet to possess? Tell me all the words you are yet to possess? Tell me all the words you are yet to possess? Tell me all the words you are yet to possess?

Doggo 04:01
There is a line I have crossed from time to time Not clocking it is there Until the spirit wore off And I changed shape to a dog Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue My throat is parched And you are so good to touch And I reach again to drink my fill And then I change shape to a dog Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue My body is flooded With waves of ideas of you And it’s just making me thirstier I’m not in control Do you see me now It’s all coming out wrong Could you just? This isn’t the real one - If it isn’t who is it? If it i- isn’t who is it? If it isn’t who is it? If it isn’t who is it? If it isn’t who is it? If it isn’t who is it? Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue Is it all over my face That I’m thirsty as the sun Taste of blood in my mouth From biting my tongue

Sinti Holo 03:46
I was drowning til I got in the water I was heartbroken Hope choked in And I had to crack myself open In the waves I was nothing And everything In motion I drop into blue I drop into blue Water clean me I was dead Join my body to my head Weightless Chlorine is the perfume of my rehabilitation Oh I ate up every length of it so impatient For it to be over already Before I petrify hard It’s in your body to be buoyant And leave too tired to be vex I drop into blue I drop into blue Water clean me I was dead Join my body to my head Weightless Weightless Water clean me I was dead Join my body to my head I drop into blue I drop into blue Water clean me I was dead Join my body to my head Weightless Weightless Weightless

Blank Spaces 03:47
Flash-back Like smoking on old dried up cigarettes The craving - the hard suck Crackles bright burn of regret I went into it Both eyes open Filled up with a fiction Will you be my saviour? My family? A reason? I took your mute reply as yes And opened good and wide And all the blank spaces Gave made me aching to chase it more Oh How can you miss what you never had? How can you miss what you never had? Fixed my eyes up to the clouds and think I was looking up And when the rain came down It filled my eyes right to the top The light went in the water Bent the world right out of shape And when the sun shone in my eyes The colours split and quake I turned to you to share a peach But you were somewhere else Gone gone gone How does a nothing Become a something If they were never there Then what is there to replace? How does a nothing Become a something If they were never there Then what is there to replace? How does a nothing Become a something The ache fills my body My limbs get thick Now I don’t see you anymore You’ve gotten so big in my head Aching to chase it more How can you miss what you never had? How can you miss what you never had? And all the blank spaces Give me an aching to chase it more How can you miss what you never had? How can you miss what you never had? And all the blank spaces Give me an aching to chase it more All the blank spaces Giving me aching to chase it more All the blank spaces Giving me an aching to chase it more All the blank spaces Giving me an aching to chase it more All the blank spaces Giving me an aching to chase it more

about

On her new EP Giramata, Auclair explores themes of transmutation, each song opens up a space for things to change from one state to another - a process that’s brought to life in the raw and sinuous energy of her voice, layers of warping synths and the tactile immediacy of drum hits. Here the spaces left by ghost notes are given as much weight as the ones charged up with bold polyrhythms.

Growing up in West London, the British-Rwandan music and sound artist flourished under the influences of its eclectic broken beat, techno, drum & bass and jungle scenes. Teamed with her love of punk and hardcore bands, and her background in choirs, Auclair soon started to craft a liminal space, where digital and analog amalgamate to form something interchangeable, and forever evolving. Purchasing her first eight-track, the artist recorded with whatever she had, building universes out of herself by using her vocals as an instrument, adding layers and field recordings to create a transcendent, intricate beauty.

Auclair has always been inquisitive about the musicality of sound, and has spent much of her time between records focusing on sound art projects and multi-arts collaborations. Previous projects include a live reworking and scoring of Afro-Brazilian classic Black Orpheus with Charlie Dark; Beck’s Song Reader Live; a multi-sensory concert for a blindfolded audience The Sensory Score; choral sound work about bees The Swarm and a musique concrete series made from recordings of buildings.

She’s played in samba groups, trained with a Nigerian master drummer and studied with the pioneering Rwandan drum ensemble Ingoma Nshya. It’s this rhythmic language of her heritage and her growing musical curiosity that produces an unwavering thread throughout Giramata, where Auclair uses her body, her voice, drum machines, scrunched up plastic bags and shells, and synthesisers to set out on a kaleidoscopic, cathartic wandering.

This ever-bending energy opens with “D.I.A.A.R.L. (Dreaming Is An Act of Radical Love)” – a serenade to the power of our dreams as a liberation practice, inspired by Rwandan drumming, Sun Ra and bell hooks.

Later on the Audre Lorde-inspired “Them Unsaids,” the angular shifting drums and thick bass pop and lock under vocals striving to turn silence into language and action, while on “Doggo” woozy 90s trance chords and messy blown-out drums carry us through an awakening to the ways thirst can express itself.

After improvising with EDP’s WASP synth, Auclair created “Sinti Holo,” it’s sliding touch-sensitive keypad providing the wavey backdrop for a homage to how swimming helped mend a broken heart.

Closer “Blank Spaces” sound of a train points towards a journey yet to end, and reason being redundant under the ever-collapsing phrase: “All those blank spaces / giving me aching / to chase it / more.

Giramata is an EP that sees Auclair stretch her creative muscles to push through the barriers of self scrutiny, heartache and longing, shifting sounds to form a mythological pathway into something transcendental yet everyday. Like the saturated colours of Wong Kar Wai, the circular narratives of Pedro Almodovar, or the rich, captivating traditions of Rwandan folklore, Auclair seeks out the beauty in the small details. It’s a series of transformations, and encountering yourself with fresh eyes; it’s making peace with grief and ritual desire; it’s expressing vulnerability in an unadorned, open space.
